I guess I'll kick things off.
I love movies. Love 'em. And although I'm sure I haven't seen enough to really call myself a film buff, I do anyway.
I've got two Top Tens here. The first is a list of what I consider the best movies, the ones that really hit home. These are the movies for which I need to take a few months before repeat viewings.
The second is a list of the other best movies. These are the movies that I can watch anytime, anywhere, and not give a damn if I've seen it twenty times before. In a way, they're a more important list to me, because they're the movies I know best.
Neither list is in any particular order, and i'm sure I've left some of them out. Apologies. I'll add any others if I think of them.
The Best Movies American Beauty Amelie Moulin Rouge Chasing Amy Requiem for a Dream The Eighth Day Se7en Magnolia Dancer In The Dark Romeo + Juliet
The Other Best Movies Ghost World Being John Malkovich Run Lola Run Mr. Vampire Human Traffic Clerks Wayne's World The Big Lebowski Monsters, Inc. Zoolander
Please do add your own Top Ten(s), and if you think my Top Tens suck, be gentle with the yelling and the biting and the metal teeth, woo-hey woo-hey...
James

American Beauty is a very good film, and I did have it on DVD once. I sent it back as the quality of the product was horrible - broken case, scratched disk etc., and haven't got around to buying it again. I plan to one day when I put in my next big order (to save on shipping). My favourite movies have mainly been around for a while, giving them time which I think is important in declaring something a favourite. I really hate it when poeple call the latest in-thing their favourite! Bloody sheep. You didn't grow out of "Titanic", the movie just sucked to begin with Anyway, here is a list off the top of my head - - Back To The Future and sequels - Airplane and Airplane II (Flying High/Flying High II on DVD in R4) - The Revenge Of The Nerds - The Naked Gun - Stripes - Short Circuit - Labyrinth - Beauty And The Beast (Disney) - The Silence Of The Lambs - The Rock - Armageddon - Cape Fear (1991 - to be honest I didn't finish watching this last time, so maybe this shouldn't be here. The ethical issue of the film I found interesting, and has some interesting filming techniques)

I really hate doing these lists.
Hate hate hate!
But I love reading other people's. Anyway I've been working on my Top 10 for about 3 years now, and once it's finalised I assure you that you'll all be the first to hear about it.

Hey James, I have a top 20 list somewhere. I'll post it again when I can get to it. I may need to make some changes. Same here I brought an Amelie poster at Uni the other day. It is really cute, all in French. I hung it on the back of my door.... um. Movies on your list I really enjoyed are Amelie, Se7en, Being John Malkovich, Clerks and Zoolander. I also liked American Beauty, Moulin Rouge, Chasing Amy, Requiem for a Dream, Magnolia, Romeo and Juliet, Run Lola Run, The Big Lebowski and Ghost World. I think we have some things in common Come on what about a top 5?

Come on what about a top 5? That's even harder! Whichever way you go you leave something out. Maybe I should do a no-particular-order Top 3000

Just to jump off the topic for a sec, I thought I'd relate a little anecdote of mine. I was lucky enough to get to go to Paris last year, and I was wandering around the Montmartre area trying to find the Moulin Rouge (as I mentioned, it's a fave of mine). I found, and it was pretty cool - nowhere near as cool as in the movie, mind, but it was nice to be there, so I took some pictures for the hell of it. Figuring that was really all there was to see, I decided to head for where I was staying that night. I didn't really have any idea how to get to the necessary train station, so I was just cruising around for a while, trying to find a sign or some such. I was walking up a small street when suddenly, there in front of me I saw an amazing sight.... [glow=red,2,300]La Café-Tabac des 2 Moulins![/glow]The café where Amélie works! I had no idea it actually existed! I would've loved to have gone in, but it was late, and I could see that it was closing up. I took my own photo, though. If anyone would like to see it, I'll scan it and upload it here. Sorry for waffling so far off the topic. I just thought it was kinda cool, is all... hope you did too! James

Post a pic, post a pic, post a pic! You went to Paris, that is so cool. Where else have you travelled? The closest I've been to France is New Caledonia Oooh, That's that cafe on my poster... let's compare. Shhhh! No ones meant to know I need to fix up my list but that sites always down.

Post a pic, post a pic, post a pic! Can anyone give some advice on how to do this? I don't have a homepage or anything; the best I can do is email it to anyone that wants one, but that's no fun! My trip last year was the first time I'd ever been overseas (and the only time thus far). I was travelling by myself, but always stayed with people I knew. I got to go to the UK for three weeks or so; I was mainly in London, staying with my sister, and from there I made various little trips: Shrewsbury, Stratford-upon-Avon, Wales, Oxford, Canterbury and Paris (Sadly, I was only there for just a night and a day). After that, I stayed in Germany for about 10 days with some exchange student friends of mine, which was cool even though I don't speak any German. Then it was home again, home again, rather like that fellow who bought a fat pig. Some of the highlights of my trip included: Going to the Tate Modern art gallery in London Watching English TV - BigBrother, Banzaii, and a shitload of DIY programs, including one where kids redesign their parents house (plus all the ads on English TV are quality ones) Seeing Les Misérables on stage, also in London Seeing Boy George (of all people) DJing at a club in Shrewsbury Going on a mad spree in HMV's DVD section during their summer sales in London, where I also found a copy of Neverending Story on VHS Hanging out with my sister's crazy friends Drinking in the BLUU bar in Hoxton Square, London Walking through a field (near Oxford) with my cousin while the sun was setting Eating lunch in the sun on a lawn in Canterbury (where I actually managed to get really sunburnt!) Getting up at 5am on a Sunday morning to go to a nightclub Chancing upon La Café-Tabac des 2 Moulins in Paris Sitting on a bench on the Champs-Elysées in Paris, listening to Joe Dassin's song of the same name on my Discman Eating the most delicious icecream at an Eisse-Café (Icecream Café) in Friesoythe, Germany Dancing to Vanilla Ice at the Extra! Music Park nightclub in Friesoythe Watching the amazing fountain at Postdammer Platz in Berlin. My favourite place was London, and I can't wait to go back. I recently had my palm read by my friend's father, and he said that I had a lot of travel in my life. Oh God, how I hope he's right. Travelling is the best. Bitten by the travelbug, James "To market, to market..."
