Thanks for the compliment. I've seen Happiness and I thought it was great. I've yet to see Storytelling. Todd has a new movie coming out called Palindromes. Can't wait for that one.

Sorry for the three posts in a row, but here's my Top 30. I'm trying to compile a Top 100, but that will take a while, since I'm fairly picky about movies that make the list. Nice work! I liked heaps of the movies on your list. I didn't see all of this, but what I saw was utterly beautiful; soooo wonderfully tender. I couldn't get it out of my head for the next few days. Do you have this one? Anyhow, I really must see it again. Anyone who hasn't seen it, find it, it's amazing. Hey FooBoy, have you see The Eighth Day (le Huitième jour) (France, 1996 dir: Jaco van Dormael). www.imdb.com/title/tt0116581/It's a film about a divorcee who's suffering a total crisis after the breakdown of his marriage, when he befriends a Downes syndrome sufferer. This is one of the most beautiful films I've ever seen. Anyone else caught this on SBS?

I quite like my list, although it lacks older classics and foreign films. Hopefully more of these will make it to my Top 100. Classic films: they've always been my Achilles heel. As far as classics go, there're simply not that many that I've seen. Lawrence in Arabia? Nope. One Flew Over The Cuckoo's Nest? Hell no. I only just recently saw Taxi Driver ferchrissakes. Good good good, but. I have seen Sunset Blvd. Great.

Some interesting choices (why "Lantana'?). Of all Eastwood's films, "A Perfect World" but not "Unforgiven"? "Pulp Fiction" and "Jackie Brown", but no "Reservoir Dogs"? "Se7en" but not "Fight Club"? Overall I like your choices (though no Tim Burton, Wes Anderson or David Lynch - 3 of the best working directors around) and like you said older and foreign stuff. Ahh, who am I kidding... any list without a Hitchcock is null and void! (I'll settle down now. I won't even attempt a list - it's beyond my capacity.)

I have seen Sunset Blvd. Great. You should try to see "Persona" then. At the very least it will help you understand "Mulholland Dr" better.

You're not a Lantana fan, Splash? It was not offensively bad or anything, but at number 12? (the only reason it won all those awards was because it was the only Australian film that came out that year)

My list is definitely much more of a personal list than a critical one (hell, I had Point Break up there for a while before I got tired of it). Some of the films are a little flawed, but they've all had an impact on me and my love for movies, and so I love them all. Well that's the thing isn't it - favourites lists must depend on personal reasons as much as critical ones. Like what you said about "A Perfect World", sometimes you're just in a place where you need to see a certain kind of film and the right one comes along. "Rushmore" is my favourite film ever as much because of when I first saw it as it is a great film anyway. In many ways "The Royal Tenenbaums" surpasses it, but "Rushmore" was the one. Lynch is certainly an acquired taste. By coincidence the first film of his I saw was "Eraserhead" - his first - and it really got me thinking and then when it clicked the wonderful world of Lynch invited me in me like the good town of Spectre in "Big Fish" (why hasn't anyone gone and seen this masterpiece yet?!) As for Hitch, I like "Rear Window" the best I think. You should see plenty of "Vertigo" in "Mulholland Dr". Start with the big ones anyway like " Dial M for Murder" and anything with Ingrid Bergman in it. And on films having flaws, all films have them - it's just how easily you can forgive them which tells you how good the film is.
