I've seen most of those movies, I'll put stars next to my personal favs. Actually I like almost all of them, some I like but don't love as much as those with the stars (much of my DVD collection is there). Wes Anderson rocks! So do you like Christian Bale???

whats boiler room? it sounds so familiar, but i am not sure. It stars Giovanni Ribisi, Vin Diesel (who was actually quite good in this), Ben Affleck (in a really gr8 part), Scott Caan (James' Son), Nicky Katt (Boston Public) and Ron Rifkin (Alias). This is what it says on the back of my dvd: 'Welcome to the infamous boiler room of J.T. Marlin, where twenty-something millionaires are made overnight. Here, in the inner sanctum of this renegade brokerage firm, aggressive young stockbrokers are rewarded with more wealth than they ever imagined. The latest recruit to this hot-shot company, is Seth Davis, a street-smart college drop-out with big money on his mind - and he's about to see it. Trained by the company's top young turks, Seth soon enjoys instant riches and all the privileges that go with them. He's on top and living the life he always dreamed of. But Seth is about to learn the devastating secret behind all his intoxicating success...and just as he was seduced into the firm, Seth finds himself caught in a trap that could destroy his future, his family and bring his entire world crashing down.' It's a guys movie for sure, but i love it. It's a solid story with great acting and snappy dialogue.

Wes Anderson rocks! So do you like Christian Bale??? Yeh Wes Anderson is a champ! I love Rushmore & The Royal Tenenbaums. Bill Murray rules too! I think its a bit of an understatement to say i 'like' Christian Bale! He's at the top of my list of hottest actors. What i love most about him is that not only is he the most beautiful man alive, but he actually CAN ACT! He's pretty bloody brilliant actually. He makes me swoon

The direction is fabulous, the cinematography is beautiful, the soundtrack is haunting, the acting is BRILLIANT, the story is incredible... and it was shot in Australia! What more could one want in a great film? ;D BTW - sorry about my dodgy 3 posts, but i havent figured out how to split up the quotes. Someone wanna put me out of my misery, or are you gonna leave me in a constant loop of blonde moments

I quite like your list, Cher... Can I call you Cher? ;D Anways, many of my faves are on here two. There are only about 6 on that list that I've not yet seen.
But... The Big Lebowski is conspicuous in its absence. Explain yourself.

I used to have that nickname circa 1995, cos all my friends thought i looked like Cher from Clueless. Nothing wrong with a little blast from the past Shit i knew i missed something! I looove The Big Lebowski! "Shut the fuck up Donnie!!!" I like to think of myself as a female version of 'The Dude' Speaking of that line - have you seen the movie 'Bully'? I don't know if it's in homage, but that line is used a lot. Just something to think about...

Do you believe in life after love? Coolies. I like to think of myself as a male Bunny. Bully's on the list. After Ken Park was banned I decided I just should see some of Larry Clark's stuff. I rented Kids but the tape was fucked.

Do you believe in life after love? Haha not that Cher! LOL! Actually Cher's ok - wish i could sing that deep! Yeh. I actually liked Ken Park (my friend downloaded it). I mean it was full-on, but it made me feel better about my own life thats for sure It was quite graphic sex-wise though - i felt like i was watching porn... oh silly me - that means you'll like it right? Bully is a gr8 film, Michael Pitt (who plays Donnie) is fantastic! Kids i saw when i was about 15 and it freaked me out royally. But i've seen it since and it's way tame compared to Bully and Ken Park. It's just the subject matter that's disturbing.

You have a copy? Awesome. I'm in Perth until Saturday, can I get a copy off of you? You could send it in the mail to where I'm staying (cheapish!) or we can take advantage of this situation and meet up in public, just in case we become real good OzFreak buddies.
But, has anyone else on the board done that? Met another 'board member'?
Please do get back to me, Cher... If you don't wanna, that's cooooooo...

The Thin Red Line is a fantastic movie with a fantastic ensemble cast. What more can i say. Someone wanna put me out of my misery, or are you gonna leave me in a constant loop of blonde moments you have to do that manually.... dont worry about all the posts, i dont think anyone cares. yep The THin Red Line is my favouritest movie of all time. ive seen it at least 8 times and im planning to watch it again this week. for me its a once every 3 or 4 months movie. it just blows my mind everytime. its so subtle and beautiful and Sean Penn is amazing. im sick of all those dumb pricks who whinge that George Clooney was in only in it for 2 minutes and yet got top billing. they obviously have no idea how Hollywood works. Clooneys part was original big. its a large part in the book (which is also great in a very different way, it has none of the poetry), when Clooney signed on to do the movie, before a single shot had been filmed he would of negotitated to have top billing, thats how the star system works. when the film was being cut his part probably would of been cut out altogether but he would of have to get top billing anyway othwerwise the film makers would of been sued so they had to keep at least some of him in the movie. Viggo Mortenson and Bill Pullman all had substantial roles in that film but are nowhere to be seen. Adiren Brody was originally the main focus of the film, if you read the book hes the main character and most of the story is seen through his eyes. the original cut was apparently 9 hours long. i would kill everyone on this board to see that i just really dig Malick's style....its so original. its very literate...the only way i an describe it...another film of his called Days of Heaven has a very novelic feel to it. The THin Red Line, everything about it is just great. the best scene is where the troops are marching to the line ad this black native is walking in the opposite direction down past the soldiers, its a blink and youll miss it thing but its a great image. but i think the brilliance of the movie can be seen in one particular scene. its a scene where Witt meets a soldier on a lonely hill who took a bullet in the knee and has been left behind to make his own way to the bivouac. the sun is setting and the man seems quite happy, for him the war is over, his injury is apparently not fatal and hes got lots of morphine. its a nice peaceful afternoon. but watching this scene the first time i felt terribly afraid for this man, that something very bad was going to happen, he was going to get lost, he was going to get left behind. it was like meeting a ghost that couldnt find his way into the afterlife. after seeing the film a few times i read the book and in the book it explains that this man died 6 months later of a infection in his leg and i remember crying because somehow Terrence Malick communicated this to me subconciously, i knew this man was dying or already dead but if you watch the scene there are no words to suggest that, its all done with the subtext and i dont think ive ever seen a film that has communicated with me so clearly and lucidly without using very direct and obvious methods, it brilliant and i dont know how he did it. apparently Malick is making a movie of the life of Che Geveura (spelling?) which should be really cool. also another reaosn why i love this movie is that the studio was pressurign Malick to release it before Saving Private Ryan because if i t wasnt then it would very likely make no money (which it didnt) btu Malick wanted to get it right and spent the time to do it which is very cool. and consequently he never made as much money as SPeilberg but he made an absolutel masterpiece, whereas Spielberg just made a tarted up "worthy" action movie "oscar winner". oh and its got the delicious Miranda Otto playing a wondefully erotic and sublime role.

Wow - you do like The Thin Red Line! It is a one-of-kind movie that's for sure. It's exquisite really. *Gets dvd player prep'd*. Have to watch it again now... Terrence Malick is a God. Sean Penn is such a brilliant actor, he has such a wonderful screen prescence - i just adore him. With the George Clooney thing - some of my friends who saw it said they were pissed off that he was only in it for 2 mins, and i had to explain the whole 'Hollywood reasons' thing to them! So i know what you mean Malick is doing a Che Guevara flick? Sweet. Go the revolution! Do you know who he's cast? Benicio Del Toro would be a good choice IMHO. Miranda Otto is beautiful isn't she? So glad she's playing in LOTR - it'll give her more exposure! Go Aussie go!

yeah i heard Del Toro was going to be in it. but im dont think the project is even 100%. hope so though...it would be great...hes never made a bad movie, i dont think hes capable. i would say hes probably my favourite actor, along with John Cusack...these guys are good even in shitty movies. oh and Ewan McGregor...i actually sat through Moulin Rouge cause of him....and that says alot shes got a brilliant earthy beauty...i just lvoe her scenes in Thin Red....in LOTR shes ok, but the role became a little bit too "grrl power" for my liking....of course there is that element, but in the book shes just like "yeah im a girl and i kick butt get over it" whereas in the movie its like shes trying to prove a point.
