I first saw Freaks and Geeks late one Tuesday night, while spending another night of my usual ping-pong match between homework and masturbation. The TV was set up in nearby, and I switched on the teev to see what was on. What appeared on the screen was a middle-aged couple sitting on the end of a bed, reading their daughter's diary. The humour seemd mild, subtle, yet totally hilarious. It all felt so real, and valuable. This was good television. I looked into it. Freaks and Geeks: cancelled after just 18 episodes. Weekly, late Tuesday night screenings. I was hooked. Freaks and Geeks is a very special show for me, in that it was the first time I'd gone out in search of others who, like myself, were crazy about the show. And I found them here, there and everywhere. This was a show that introduced me to a whole new level of fandom. Sure I'd watched every episode of the Simpsons twice. Sure I'd downloaded scripts of Six Feet Under to read my favourite bits again. But this was something else again. It was like learning a dead language: a language that had no hope of revival, and was only spoken by a few learned typed who were rallying to get others to speak their pure tongue. Or something. And the prospect of the series possibly coming out on DVD just made me wanna cream my jeans. Freaks and Geeks has been a very important part of my life over the years. Not so much now, but 2003-2004 were my big F&G years. I've accrued all sorts of crazy shit in an effort to make myself feel worthy as a fan. But this show is worth it. So that was my first time: I came in too late, didn't know what was going on, but eventually left fulfilled and hungry for more, even if it meant forking over a considerable portion of my hard-earned to do so.

Great story, James.
My first encounter with Freaks And Geeks isn't really a fascinating story but I too came into the series a late-comer.
Up late, couldn't sleep, channel surfing and low and behold I see a big-headed mascot dancing in the school cafeteria. "This looks interesting", I say to myself. I stayed tuned and have been ever since.

What is it with delaying homework with masturbation? It is an interesting phenomenon I believe. Perhaps we needs to do some research into that, give back to the community. The first time I watched Freaks and Geeks I think it was being promoted by nine during the summer period, shown at about 8:30 (yeah that lasted long, one week I think). I watched it, and thought it was quite good, but I wasn't paying close attention to busy chatting up men on the Internet. The next week a girl who I disliked spent a good 20 or so minutes saying Freaks and Geeks was shit, and that it was a rip off of this and that, I cant remember what references she made, anyway I decided I was in love with the show that very instant, and luckily it was the right decision.

Yes but what is it that brings it down to those two choices, I cant think of a worse activity to do between homework. Who wants to go back to homework after that, not that I'd know anything about it. Don't have homework anymore.

Great stories James, Enid and Foo. Love the title too. ;D I too stumbled across Freaks and Geeks inadvertently, late one night. I was still at uni then and so liable to be pottering about the house at ten past midnight in my pajamas, getting ready to watch TV. In fact, I think it may even have been summer holidays. Anyway, it was a Monday I believe. I was watching something else, a tape probably, but must've switched it off and Channel 9 came on. Wandered about, came back to the TV. Thought "This looks interesting, I didn't know there was a movie on tonight." The production design, the cinematography (a moving camera - ye gods no!) and the general aesthetic all made me think this was an independent American film, surely not a TV show. It reminded me a little of The Ice House. This was the episode where Lindsay cheated on the test. I sat through a bit of it, but wasn't really interested in watching an unknown movie or show from halfway through it. But I saw enough for me to make a note to key an eye out for this film the next time it was on. So I looked in the TV Guide and found out that this was in fact Freaks and Geeks! Y'see I had heard of this show before. The Sydney Morning Herald Guide supplement had listed the pilot episode as the Show of the Week or gave it an otherwise very favourable review. That was when it was being screened mid-mornings on Saturdays. I was not one to watch television at that hour and the sight of Sam and Bill leering away on the associated picture was a bit of a turn-off so I decided to forget about it. But once I got a taste of what it looked like, once it was being screened at a suitably mature hour, much like all the shows I liked to watch back then, I knew I had to give it a go. And guess what, I liked it. ~Ferrero

I used to be an insomniac, and I had a tv in my bedroom. one night i couldnt sleep so i channel surfed...the only thing even remotely decent looking was this show called Freaks and Geeks. i liked it, and made a note to watch it next week, which i did....but then WIN no longer showed it.
then a few years later i, for some reason, decided to put "freaks and geeks" into a search engine, remembering the show i liked all those years before. i found out the dvds were coming out and that got my interest going...then ch9 started showing it on late nights and i saw all the episodes for the first time and i loved it.
amazing that i still remembered a tv show after 2 or 3 years having only seen 1 and a half episodes.

Actually, our own beloved Tom F. Wilson was responsible for me becoming a Freaks and Geeks fan. Insomniac, channel surfing, same old story, "Oh hey, it's Biff from Back To the Future, let's stick with WINine for the moment." By the time Tests and Breasts had finished, this had become a show I was actively keeping a look out for.

My first time is actually a pretty lame first time experience. After going through a long period where I was buying DVD's unseen, I got bombarded by a friend of mine saying that I had to buy him a copy of Freaks And Geeks from the US. At the time he didn't have a credit card. So I ordered a copy for myself, but not for him. Seeing as if he wanted a copy so desperately, well, he would have to find a way himself. I opened it and marveled at the nice DVD set, and the nice little pictures and so forth. Then another friend asked if he could borrow it, so I leant to him. He watched the full series in one day. I went over to his house that night to go out and he had just started the final episode. So we sat down and watched it. Thus, my first time.

One night I sat in front of the TV. Freaks and Geeks was on. I liked.

Steve you are such an arse! Your friend asks you to get a DVD for them so you buy if for yourself instead then lend to to another friend who watches the entire thing before you do! I like your style! ;D And the first episode you watch is the last one, too! Talk about bizarro. Felicity, nice one, well done. See you at the doughnut table at half-time refreshments - I'd like to hear more about you. ~Ferrero

Well, well, well. Sounds like someone is bitter and twisted. Poor bubba Harvey hates uni degrees! Did they do something mean to you?
Okay Fez, I'll bring the champagne!
