About time SFU got it's own thread, 'specially under the circumstances.
It's been a rocky year for our favourite undertaking family (don't I sound like a TV guide blurb!), and now the third season is drawing to a close.
So let's let fly and talk about it for the next week and a bit. Musings, speculation, possible directions, thoughts on the season past; let it all out in the buildup to the end.
But please don't post here if you actually KNOW what's gonna happen, or if you've seen it or whatever. That'd just be too cruel for words.
James

:oSpoilers from the November 24th show, if you ain't watched it yet. - - - - Wasn't tonight's episode great? George and Ruth have got to be one of the most perfect on-screen couples I've ever seen. Watching them reminded me of why I love this show: two aging lovers kissing in bed is just unlike anything else on TV. Claire's trip to the abortion clinic was really well-handled too. Nate's breakdown, David's infidelity... really, such a great ep! - - - - As for next week... My money is still on Russell killing himself. But that's about all I got. I just hope that we get to see some more Olivier before we go... I love that crazy fuck. With baited breath, James (It's only Mondaaaaaaaaay....)

I know I said I never start watching shows seasons after they start, but I've been watching SFU for the last several episodes simply because it's talked about so much here. I think the first episode I saw was the one where the dude (I still don't know anyone's name) takes his wife camping and he kills that snake. From there I've had to fill in characters' histories. Anyway. So after it wasn't on last week I thought the one before was the cliffhanger finale. Was watching a DVD last night and after I flicked it over and there was some dude on the slab and I'd missed about the first 20 minutes. So what happened at the start of the episode? And can you rent the first few seasons or something? How do I catch up? Anyway don't tell me all the stuff I missed in the first few seasons - just what happened to all the dudes at the beginning last night. I'm afraid to look it up on the net in case I run into spoilers for next season. (Hopefully by then I'll be caught up.)

Sorry not to post earlier, I couldn't just watch 20 minutes, it was too good an episode! Too good a show, really... I took notes. And here they are: - Serial killer executed in Texas prison.
- Keith and David fight about San Diego (Keith vs his dad, then David stepped in). David argues that Keith isn't on his 'side'. David has an epiphany: Keith doesn't actually like him. He storms out of their appartment in a rage.
- Claire makes an appointment at the abortion clinic. It's for the next day, but she needs a ride there and back.
- The serial killers daughter comes to Fisher & Diaz to make funeral arrangements. Nate is weary, absent-minded, and obviously not his usual self. Nevertheless, he and the daughter share a moment. She is quite clearly attracted to him. He looks at her with dazed interest.
- Later, Nate begins to imagine different scenarios. In the first, Lisa has run off with another man.
- Ruth and new boyfriend George (James Cromwell) are enjoying a whirlwind romance. They are both exceedingly happy, though Ruth still has Lisa's disappearance in mind.
- Russell continues to try calling Claire.
And then that's when you came in. The guy on the slab was said serial killer, then Nate walks out into the hall to find said daughter. This is who he ends up fucking. Hope this sheds some light on the situation. Previous seasons have yet to be released on DVD here in Australia, and only one season has been released in the states. I have a relative who tapes just about every primetime show that makes it to free to air (no, seriously) so when I miss an episode, he sends me a copy of the tape. Very helpful when I went to Europe last year, only to return and find that my bastard family had not been taping my shows! Aaaargh! Your best bet is the Internet, unless you wanna start trading VHS's. Do whatever you can to see this show, Splash, it is the best TV program ever. I share your policy of not watching a show except from the start (Thank God I started watching from the 2nd episode), with the only recent exception being our own Freaks and Geeks. Breaking the rules, James [and making new ones all the time]

Nor I.
I think this season has been fantastic. But then I find it hard to think that the show could be anything less. I'm sure the other shoe will drop eventually, but I'm riding high for now.
The one episode that I've really taken issue with was actually the first episode of this season. I couldn't wait to find out what happened to Nate, and so downloaded the episode from KaZaA. I don't think I could ever actually stop watching SFU, but this episode didn't really make me wanna keep watching... y'know?
I did keep watching, though, thank Christ; it's been fucking brill.
All warm and tingly, James [oh no... i wet my pants]

What's the release date for the season one DVD set in Australia? Before Christmas I hope Splash, are you a fan now then? I am guessing James Cromwell's character is a conman. Not sure though but the 6 wives thing plus the book with 'no picture' and a comment about 'having no other prospects' at the moment started me wondering. (Not a spoiler, just speculation) I was disappointed that Russell wasn't in the episode.

Response to your post Harvey from the other thread.
'Ultimate' is a turn of phrase.
Next to perhaps death or rape... getting pregnant and having to face abortion both emotionally and physically is a pretty huge price.
Of course it isn't easy. No one said it was but to do that while in a relationship with your girlfriends teacher is pretty low. Cheating is cheating, if the person is sexually confused or not isn't going to make the person who gets betrayed feel anymore secure.
Obsession/love whatever, those are pretty interchangeable in this situation. I don't agree that it is okay to do that and that you can key it all up to hormones.

yeah cheating is wrong....anytime, but my sympathies lie with Russell, hes not a bad guy.
when you said the Ultimate price i didnt kno you were referring to abortion, i just thought you meant it would be a bad thing to carry a gay mans baby.
ive heard the DVD is not getting a release in Australia....its been out for ages in America and it isnt popular enough down under. Its a good set, commentaries by Alan Ball but really for the high price that is looking back I wouldnt buy it. the extras are nothing spectacular.

Like Splash, I don't like getting into TV series after they've already started...but I'm feeling a little left out on this Six Feet Under-lovers forum.
Do you think I should wait until the DVD comes out so I can catch up or will I be able to jump right into it?
Damn you Six Feet Under, being on on a Monday night when Channel 10 has its reality TV fest (yes, I love Australian Idol and Queer Eye for the Straight Guy).

The thought had crossed my mind. But I hope to God he's not. I was thinking about this possibility last night (triggered by the 'no photo' dialogue). I"m gonna cry my eyes out if this is the case. They're too darling together! Well... he was... but for like 2 seconds. We definitely need more Russell, quick smart before he takes his life or whatever.

(yes, I love Australian Idol and Queer Eye for the Straight Guy). You know, sometimes I really worry about you... I used to watch bad tv all the time too. You grow out of it.
