cool...Re-animator...i just happen to listening to the American beauty soundtrack at the moment. 2 degrees of coincedental seperation.
5 movies ive seen lately:
LATE NIGHT SHOPPING 7/10
This has Kate Ashfield (plays Liz from Shaun of the Dead) and James Lance (from the great series, The Book Group) in it so i thought i might rent it out.
If you like British slacker comedy like Spaced, I think you'd dig this movie. The lead character is called Shaun so its funny seeing another movie where Kate Ashfield says "Shaun!" in that voice she has.
Its not really laugh out loud funny but its got some cool ideas all the way through. Like the guy who works night shifts and never sees his girlfriend, he doesn't even know if she still lives with him, and the guy who every time he talks to a woman has "porno reactions".
PRINCESS BLADE 2/10
I heard that this had some killer Kill Bill style action but fuck me, its not a patch on that movie. It's a revenge fantasy flick, but it is made by some guy who has no idea. The editing, dialogue, story, acting, action is all horrible amateurish, boring and lame.
And there is no blood?!!?!!!! The action is really badly defined, if that makes sense, you can't tell whats going on it just looks like people swinging swords randomly back and forth.
PURELY BELTER 9.5/10
I fucking loved this movie. Its about two teenagers living in poverty in Newcastle, England, trying to save money for season tickets to the football.
It's like a serious comedy, very serious in parts and very funny in others (like the end). A kick ass New Order style soundtrack too. One of the best movies I've seen for many months.
CRUMB 9/10
Excellent documentary by Terry Zwigoff (Ghost World) about Robert Crumb, who created Fritz and The Cat and many other famous comic book characters. I have to admit that Im not a fan of comics or graphic novels or whatever you call them, its not that I think they are childish or whatever, it's not something Im into. But this movie made me like Crumb's work.
Its an amazing documentary, you really get to know the guy. He is very similar to Steve Buscemi's character from Ghost World.
A MIDSUMMERS NIGHTS DREAM 8/10
A recent one, with Rupert Everett, Calista Flockhart and Kevin Kline. I had read many bad reviews of this but I thought it was actually pretty good. The performances were all good, and it was very funny in some places.
that freaked me out when i saw it when i was like 2 or 3. I remember seeing the father running through the streets holding his hurt kid. i was traumatised for like weeks after that.

I've seen that film! It used to be on Foxtel all the time. They always repeat the same films over and over. Very silly! I agree with everything Harvey said about Late Night Shopping. The concept was good, but not as well executed as it could have been. My Last Ten Movies:Shaun of the Dead (Edgar Wright, 2004) ***** American Splendor (Shari Springer Berman, Robert Pulcini, 2003) *** Good Bye Lenin! (Wolfgang Becker, 2003) ***** 21 Grams (Alejandro González Iñárritu, 2003) *** 1/2 Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory (Mel Stuart, 1971)**** Robin Hood: Men in Tights (Mel Brooks, 1993) *** It was on TV today- channel 10. The Village (M. Night Shyamalan, 2004) NO STARS. Bad, bad movie. Boys Don't Cry (Kimberly Peirce, 1999) **** Dancer in the Dark (Lars von Trier, 2000) ***** Holy Smoke (Jane Campion, 1999) *** My list isn't as impressive and obscure as Foo and Harvey's list.

ooh this thread is a fantastic procrastinator Robin Hood: Men in Tights (Mel Brooks, 1993) *** It was on TV today- channel 10. i love this movie! a childhood favorite and absolute classic Harvey I love that version of a midsummer nights dream… In regards to cable - it is kindof silly to repeat movies over and over but also…I love it. It is completely great actually - it makes you love movies and allows you discover things you otherwise never would. It is where I found Wet Hot all those years ago, which eventually became my favorite movie. It even shows soft core porn now (apparently)…for those who like that kind of thing. Here are some lame reviews of movies, I’m sorry films, that I have recently seen: ‘Beyond the Ashes’ : ** It was on Foxtel…watched it for garofalo factor. She was great. It was an ensemble cast…set in downtown Manhattan as people deal with life after September 11. The dialogue (or the performances – I can’t tell) felt a little forced at times but all in all really quite good. ‘S1mone’ : *** I saw this a few months ago on Foxtel and again last night…totally addictive. contains a young evan rachel wood and Catherine Keener of being john malkovich. also contains a jason schwartzman. Al Pacino plays a film director who creates a movie star on a computer and people believe she is real and so on and yeah (do my brilliant movie reviewing skills impress you). Addictive, very good. Some might say underrated… ‘Kids in the Hall : Brain Candy’ : **** I finally managed to see this. BRILLIANT! Absolute brilliance. I miss Dave Foley very much…will buy Newsradio dvds v. soon…Christmas is coming after all ‘Wet Hot American Summer’: ***** if you like funny things watch it. full of parodic cliches and fantastic performances by the likes of; Chris Meloni - the very funny man of law and order SVU, Paul Rudd – dreamboat, David Hyde Pierce- of Frasier, Molly Shannon and Amy Poehler (the funniest person alive) and many more fantastic people. Ps. My stars mean nothing. As I have rarely ventured to the movie theatre of late I have not had the pleasure of seeing a film I didn’t love.

That's where I first heard of Wet Hot American Summer too. I also wouldn't have heard of it otherwise. I randomly found the Minus Man on cable as well- Janeane and Owen Wilson! What more could you ask for?! So you're a big Janeane fan, June? Me too!! Years and years ago Natalie bought me 'Feel This Book' written by Ben Stiller and Janeane Garofalo. www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/ASIN/0345412931/qid=1097760587/sr=2-1/ref=pd_ka_b_2_1/002-5001988-9930409 Have you read it?? It's mucho funny. Hehe. 'If we say 'film' we look way more intelligent than we really are. I used to say 'movies' all the time, and then when I enrolled in film studies at uni the lecturer forbid us from using that word. I really can't see the problem though! Academic snobbery methinks.

I can't remember which were the last 10 movies I saw. Is Derek and Clive Get the Horn considered a movie? So I won't participate just yet, but I will mention that I did a presentation in class yesterday on The Blues Brothers and ¡Three Amigos! and John Landis in general, but I ran out of time before I had a chance to explain how both films are influenced by The Seven Samurai (Kurosawa is everywhere if you open your eyes). However, I will take this opportunity once again to denounce the star rating system:
WHAT IS THE POINT OF THE STAR SYSTEM HOW IS IT HELPFUL TO RATE SOMETHING OUT OF FIVE AND LEAVE IT AT THAT FOOBOY AND NOT DISCUSS WHAT YOU LIKED/DISLIKED ABOUT THE FILM THERE IS NO POINT IN JUST RATING SOMETHING WITH STARS BECAUSE YOU END UP WITH SEVEN BEGILLION FILMS ALL GETTING THREE STARS WHAT AM I SUPPOSED TO DO WITH THAT INFORMATION HOW IS THAT INFORMING MY CHOICES AS A VIEWER IF I LOOK AT ALL THESE FILMS AND THEY ALL JUST HAVE A STAR RATING CLEARLY THERE IS NO POINT TO GIVING A STAR RATING AT ALL IT WOULD BE MUCH MORE HELPFUL TO ACTUALLY TALK ABOUT THE FILMS AND GIVE NO SCORE end rant. For now.

yes i love her!! i'm quite obsessed. i have a huge non-sexual crush on her like george with the 'mimbo' in seinfeld. i downloaded some of the audio book of 'feel this book' a while ago. she is allegedly going to be in richard kelly's new movie 'southland tales', which sounds like it will be top notch film experience. amy poehler will be in it too. its quite a strange cast actually
