Some people think I'm weird, I don't know. I like to watch the second half of a movie first and then watch the first half. That way I can see an exciting climax straight up and then relax and observe the events leading up to it. Does anyone else do that? Of course nobody else does that.

yeah thats pretty strange. what if its a movie like Memento?
but then again, maybe its not so odd. Alot of movies these days have all the best bits in the first half hour.
BROADWAY DANNY ROSE 7/10
Not essential Woody Allen but a good film none-the-less. Woody plays a hapless theatrical manager who gets on the wrong side of the mob. it has some good gags, like the woman who goes catatonic after being hypnotised on stage. "the body is still warm, thats a good sign" but the whole thing kinda fizzles out at the end.
Still, i liked it.

just finished reading Charlie Kaufman's script for A SCANNER DARKLY. An adaptation of what i believe is Philip K Dick's best book.
Kaufman does an excellent job of condensing the novel, he is incredibly faithful to the material which is great because all the elements are there in the book anyway and every other film adaptation of Philip K Dick has butchered his material. (Even the excellent Blade Runner is not very similar to the novel)
The ending is changed a small amount but is still quite faithful, but I think the way its written it might be very hard to get across on the screen. Its the kind of script that would make an awesome movie with the right director and a horrible movie with the wrong one.
Even thought Linklater's forth coming film adaptation doesn't use this script Im still very very much looking forward to it. Winona Ryder as Donna....Robert Downey Jnr as Barris.....very interesting choices.

Ubik is great too, but Scanner feels like the most personal. also its not SF but try and find "In Milton Lumkey Territory" one of his early mainstream novels that was never published till after his death. its amazingly good.

this is totally random but i must share. its not that random actually...its somewhat Judd Apatow related . and also related to movies. and this is the movie topic. anyway
Steve Carell, of the Will Ferrell comedy camp, will be Maxwell Smart in a 2005 version of Get Smart. from what i can gather, this man is very funny. so it is good news! if everyone has seen anchorman he is the 48 IQ guy..who will later "be considered mentally retarted". "i love lamp. i love...lamp"
he will also be Uncle Arther in Bewitched...but this movie will be forever damned due to the craziness of casting nicole kidman as samantha

HERO 9.5/10
An amazing movie, the use of colour is something that everyone talks about but it so striking. My only criticism is that near the end there are a few too many slow motion shots of people crying over their lvoers. if youve seen the movie youll know what i mean. but thats only a minor gripe.
Its vaguely ridiculous that it was only released with Tarantino's endorsement, but it is a bit Tarantino-esque, very much a "movie-movie".
I loved it, and yeah there are some communist overtones but when its looks this good and the story si so intrigueing, who cares!

i thought you liked Eyes Wide Shut? I said I thought it was an interesting casting choice because they were a real-life couple. I think her acting in it is laughable at times. Many times.
