'Sup y'all.
Things seem a bit quiet lately, so here's a new thread, inspired by last night's episode of Undeclared.
For those that missed it, the cast, the 4th floor gang, the Undeclaredians - whatever you wanna call 'em - all got to meet Adam Sandler. Anyway, I got to thinkin'. And then I got to wonderin'. Then I got to scratchin' my ass. Then I got to thinkin' 'bout scratchin' my ass... where was I?
In the midst of all this thinkin' and scratchin', I thought I might ask you guys: who have you met, by way of celebrities, personalities, etc.? Who was cool? Who was a dickhead? Give us the lowdown on the chance encounter that brightened your pathetic little life for a brief shining moment(s).
Think this line of questioning is a superficial waste of time? Yeah, well, that's where scratchin' your ass gets you. Just ignore this thread.
For those that are interested, hit us with your stories. Sexual romps with Paris Hilton don't count, cowboy.
Scratchin' it up, James
PS Try and limit it to your own personal encounters. None of this friend-of-a-friend, Freaky Stories crap. Even though I'm dying to tell you about when my sister met Nick Cave, and when a friend of mine met Quentin Tarantino. For real. Tooooooo bad.

I've met everyone in Machine Gun Fellatio... but they're pretty accessible. Only impressive cause they're a seven member group. Chitchat von Loopinstab was my favourite. Nice guy. I've met Kyle Cooper (the guy that did the opening titles for films such as Se7en and Spiderman) at a design conference in Melbourne earlier this year. He was really cool; we talked for about 10 minutes. Comedians are pretty accessible. I've met Arj Barker and Greg Fleet. I tried to dissuade Greg Fleet from a job on SAFM (one of Adelaide's Austereo networks). He didn't listen. Neither did I. I've kinda met Scott Hicks at my friend's Dad's funeral, but not really. Nah, I don't think he counts. I briefly met Derek Jacobi at the airport. I mean, like, briefly. And... My mum and I met Peter Coombe at the beach. But that was a long time ago. That's all I can think of for now. Newspaper, mama!James PS I remember now that I also met David Attenborough in about 1996 when he was doing a promo tour for The Life of Plants. Back when I was (more) square. He was very nice, considering my little brother and I were completely starstruck. We stood in line for about an hour to be the first to get our book signed. Then we went thru the line again cause i didn't have a book and wanted him to sign my scrap of paper. He shook my hand. Then we went thru a third time so that my brother could shake his hand. Sad but true. But yeah, Davo A is da man.

I have never met anyone even remotely famous.
BTW what does the subject "Heroes and Hiltons" mean?

BTW what does the subject "Heroes and Hiltons" mean? Yeah, I thought I might get asked that. For the titles of my surveyish threads, I keep trying to appropriate (the majority of) the Freaks and Geeks episode titles: Beirs and Weirs, Carded and Discarded, Tricks and Treats, etc. My earlier 'Flicks and Picks one was a lot easier, but this one was a real doozy. It took me about 45 minutes to come up with Heroes and Hiltons (over Idols and Sidles, Choosers and Shmoozers, Stars and Starlets, Big names and Bigwigs, etc, etc.). There simply weren't enough matching words for this kind of topic (I was using thesaurus.reference.com). In the end I flaked on Heroes and Hiltons; I figured heroes was fine, and since I mentioned Paris Hilton at the end, I figured that'd be appropriate. But maybe not. Has anyone got any good alternatives? Let's stay on the topic here, but perhaps we could branch off slightly... Making like a tree, James [and Flames? and Games? Ah, fuck it]

i met David Prowse (Darth Vader) and Peter Mayhew (chewie) earlier this year at a geek convention i went to, even got my picture taken with chewie in true geek style. i have also met heaps of bands (mostly ska, dub reggae, hardcore and punk), but i dont think that really counts. oh yeah, my mate from uni is bank teller number 2 in the new peter pan movie thats due to come out soon, does he count?

i met David Prowse (Darth Vader) and Peter Mayhew (chewie) earlier this year at a geek convention i went to, even got my picture taken with chewie in true geek style. Yeah, they came to Adelaide too. I didn't go see them, but. Apparently, that's how they make their livings now, going around to conventions/signings etc., charging money for photos and autographs. But I think charging people money for an autograph is a bit shit. It seems so whorish. I dunno. If you had to do it for hours and hours, I suppose I can see why. But they were charging quite a bit for their Adelaide signings. I guess the 'bigger' the band, the better, but hey, whatever. Some bands are harder to get to than others. Weeeeell.... My brother was an extra in Australian Rules (which was a pretty cool movie). He was in the background at the party after the grand final. But I wouldn't include him. I also went to school with the dude who played Chuck in the TV series "Chuck Finn" and the Artful Dodger in the series "Escape of the Artful Dodger". But I don't count him either. I never really watched either show. I am looking forward to Peter Pan, but. James [second star on the right in that movie by that guy]

Yeah I get the episode title thing, but what's "Paris Hilton"? A tv show? Are... are you serious? Cool (but maybe kinda weird) if you are. You are perhaps better for not knowing. But if you must know... I'll just post this, then, shall I? Here she is, in all her glory: us.imdb.com/name/nm0385296/She shouldn't reallybe on IMDb.com. It's not like she's an actress or anything. And for more interesting (and, more importantly, up to date) tidbits, try this: news.google.com.au/news?hl=en&edition=au&q=%22paris+hilton%22That way you might get the "sexual romps" joke.
