But he really wanted your personal tutition and you should always give your customers what they ask for.
Somehow I don't think that will help get Shaughnessy out of your system! Call him, write to him, break into his house and sleep in his bed, do what it takes. ;D

Kibbles, you should join... someone's gonna come along and steal your name. I see what you mean! The part early in the commentary before you joined in when Samm said something about exuding charm in the booth? Can't remember exactly. That had me cracking up. No one sounded convinced about your drum kit answer but it did come right from Nick's mouth.

No one sounded convinced about your drum kit answer but it did come right from Nick's mouth. Ok, I tried to register but I have not received an email with my password. Is that supposed to be sent right away? I have a feeling it has to do with spam controls... The drum kit question was a bad one because it was too confusing. I was looking for the total number of items in Nick's kit, but I used the word pieces which usually just refers to the drums themselves (and not cymbals, cowbells, etc.) A few drummers got mad at me for that one, but I am a musician and I know what "pieces" means So therein lies the confusion. Keep in mind I had about 2 hours to get the trivia questions ready for the recording of the commentary. We were originally supposed to comment on "Tricks & Treats", so I had written a bunch of questions for that. Then they called about two hours before and said that they already had enough commentaries for "T&T", so they were changing our episode to "The Pilot". I had to scramble to watch the episode and write all new questions for it. That's why some of the questions just flat-out sucked

Hmm, I think it is meant to come right away but I registered so long ago now I can't remember. Anyone have any ideas?
If it doesn't come through let me know and I'll delete the account so you can re-register, unless Splash can reset the password?
I see what you mean. Not being a musician myself, I just assumed pieces to be everything including cymbals, etc. I thought the sheer size of the kit would have to include more than just the drums.
You're a musician? What's your weapon of choice?
Some of the questions I recognised from the SAT quiz.
The Pilot is your favourite episode isn't it? I think I read that on the other board. So it is cool that you got to do the commentary on that, plus first disc, first commentaries people hear.
Were you nervous or did you feel comfortable doing the commentary?

Actually "I'm With the Band" is probably my favorite for obvious reasons. I just love the fact that Nick doesn't go in and ace his audition. Instead it's an embarassing failure infront of a girl he likes. That's just such an accurate and totally un-TV moment. I was a little nervous doing the commentary for two reasons; 1) I was not feeling well that day and I was worried my voice was going to sound bad or break up a lot 2) I could hear Vegan, Samm and Humphries doing their commentary for the first half of the episode while I was waiting to be introduced. It was making me nervous knowing that I was going to have to come in midway through. It was going so well up to that point that I feared I might screw everything up and ruin it Luckily, it went okay and things were fairly civil between Vegan and I, thanks to Samm the mediator! To answer your other question, my weapon of choice is bass guitar. (and I still haven't receieved my password)

That's my favourite episode also, love it. They were doing well, I was surprised. I thought it may be a little awkward. I was wondering why they had you come in mid-way, was that for dramatic effect? I was interested to hear you and Vegan interact like that. I like how you all glossed over the omnivore v carnivore thing. Makes you really think about the fact that there are real people on the other end of these screen names! Hopefully Splash (when he reads this) can fix it up for you w/o you having to re-register. You have a spam guard on your email you say?

You have a spam guard on your email you say? I do have a spam guard, but any spam is sent into a special folder and I haven't seen anything in there re:passwords. As far as my coming in halfway through, I don't think there's ever been a DVD commentary phoned in via telephone before (at least none that I'm aware of) So based on that, I think they were worried that it might not work out. Originally I was supposed to come on and talk for "a few minutes". However, once we got going, they let me hang out and chat for the rest of the show. I am glad they did, because I got a chance to say more (how much can you say in five minutes with three other people in the room?) I wasn't sure how Vegan and I were going to get along, but having listened to the first half of the commentary while they were doing it, it seemed like a very friendly atmosphere and I did not want to come on and be a big bully or ruin the vibe of it. So I kept things as friendly as possible and tried not to get into any heated debates with Vegan. I think Judd was a little disappointed, he was expecting us to 'mix it up' a little bit! Ah well...

As far as my coming in halfway through, I don't think there's ever been a DVD commentary phoned in via telephone before (at least none that I'm aware of). You won't have heard of it, Kibbles, but back in the early 90s, there was a kickass comedy show on Australian TV called The Late Show. When the released their "Champagne Edition" 'Best of' DVD, it featured a commentary with the cast (who were also the writers) and, at various points in the interview, they had other people important to the show's creation on the phone to comment on the show and the sort of work they did with it (including darling of the Australian comedy special effects scene, Aaron Beaucaire . I doubt that the Late Show commentary was the first instance of a phone-in commentary, but F&G definitely wasn't the first. It was a probably a first for other reasons, however. I don't know any other shows that have had fans do a commentary, which is a very special thing indeed.

thats probaably my favourite episode too, i watched it last night actually.
i love it, but i find it very painful to watch cause it reminds me of my numerous awful high school moments.
and the way Nick dresses and looks when hes getting chewed out by his father is EXACTLY how my best friend looked when he was going through something very similar. so its great, but i find it painful to watch.
hey Kibbles...on that commentary why did they introduce near the end?
why didnt they just have you going the whole time? that was never explained.

[Hey Kibbles. Tis cool of you to join our humble little community. Thanks, Echo -- glad to be here! hey Kibbles...on that commentary why did they introduce near the end? why didnt they just have you going the whole time? that was never explained. I think the main reason was because Judd was thinking that having me via telephone might be a novelty that could wear out it's welcome quickly. The other reason was that I had the original NBC TV version of the pilot, which I was watching at home in synch with what Samm, Vegan & Humphries were watching in LA. However, my version did not have the deleted Kim Kelly scene, so I think they figured it would be easier to introduce me right after that scene, so that is where I come in. I would have loved to come on at the very start of the episode, but obviously it was not up to me! I was just grateful to be there at all I certainly would have been less nervous if I didn't have to wait so long to enter the conversation, though.....

yep its pretty cool they did the fan commentaries. how did you get asked to do it? or did you have to ask them? Kind of a long story, but I'll try to keep it brief; When I heard they had already recorded some fan commentaries (the one with Tami, Geoff, Erik) I had an idea of asking Vegan to record a commentary with me over the telephone that we could send in to Judd. I was going to record my end of the conversation and have Vegan do the same on his end (he lives in CA, I'm in NY). Then he would send his recording to me and I would use multi-tracking software to "marry" the two together into one track. I asked Judd if he'd be interested in that idea and he said yes, however, Vegan was too busy at the time with his parents so he politely declined. I thought that was the end of it. Then a few weeks later I was invited by Judd's assistant to come out to LA and record the commentary with Vegan, Samm & Humphries. I looked into airfare and hotel, etc. but I had to decline because of work. It would have been awesome to go out there and do it. Out of desperation, I asked them if it would be possible for me to call in during the recording, and they loved the idea and set it up so that it could be done technically (a "phone patch"). That's pretty much the scoop.

I asked Judd if he'd be interested in that idea and he said yes... For a while now, I've toyed with the idea of asking Judd to do a (phone-in) commentary track for Undeclared. I don't want to come across as bigheaded, and I'm not saying that I'm the best for the job; I just don't think there has ever been a show that I've so emmersed myself in, or at least dedicated myself to as much as I have this one (including F&G and SFU). They might not be up for it, though, as Undeclared never had the same fan presence as Freaks and Geeks. And I didn't even get to see the show until last year, and it's not like I post everyday on the official Undeclared board. And if Google can't tell me who DJ Cal Boz Jr. is, then I sure as hell can't tell you. But to be really involved in the production of the DVD would be amazing; if I can at least take a crack at that, we'll see how we go. Well, guys? Advice? Criticism? Condemnations, perhaps?
