Yeah, I don't really know what that subject header's all about, but I try. David and Margaret are moving to the ABC.[Google News came up with quite a few articles, actually, but this one was nice and long, had a bouncy title and a cool picture to boot. And the phrase "tits and arse" always scores major points with me in any news article. Enjoy!]

I don't watch The Movie Show much anymore these days. I continue to respect the opinions of both Stratts and Poms but I really dislike the way the movie clips they show are too often full of spoilers. If they're reviewing a whole heap of films I have no plans to see then I love to watch the show, but if I am going to see a particular movie, I don't want to have the climax played out for me before I see it.
As for the two moving to ABC, I guess it is a pretty big slap in the face for SBS. Still I'll continue to watch SBS and I'm unlikely to stick with any ABC incarnation of The Movie Show, though I will give it a glance.

PS - I dig your thread heading, James.

I'm a little worried about SBS's decision to continue The Movie Show without David and Margaret. Apparently they're looking for "young" reviewers to replace them, which sounds like they're desperate to compensate for the loss of the hosts by making the show more 'trendy'. They should just let the show die, and maybe start a new show if they want young reviewers. As for David and Margaret's ABC show At The Movies, I'll watch it as long as the quality's there. agreed. itd be cool to be movie show host though....id do it

As a co-host of The Movie Show you will be expected to heap praise on just this type of movie - not only is it 'highbrow' but for christ's sake, it's Australian!!! ;D ~Ferrero

They are always far too lenient on Australian product. I can't remember how they reviewed "Lantana", but generally it was waaaaaaay overrated when it came out. Really good Australian films are pretty thin on the ground

ive only seen lantana and it sucks. Glenn Robbins was funny, and the bit where Anthony "Without a Trace" LaPaglia ran into that guy whilst jogging was really cool.

Really good Australian films are pretty thin on the ground Here's a quote from Margaret Pomeranz on a Lantana[/] postcard I own: "Just about the best thing I've seen in recent memory. It's a landmark film. 5 stars." Sure it's taken out of context, but if that isn't glowing I don't know what is. Then again, I don't necessarily think she'd being insincere about her appraisal of the film... I thought it was decent and I can see why some people esp. older, married, 'relationship-types' would have really enjoyed it.

my mum walked out of it.....she hated it more than me. i didnt really like it cause it had about 7 main characters who live in Sydney and who are constantly running into each other. i mean.....theres like 3 million people in Sydney and these characters are just coincedentally bumping into each other all the fucking time. wasnt there a scandal some time ago about the Movie show rating aussie films higher than they normally would have? its probably true....they gave Moulin Rouge a good score right?
